Mirror Text

Here is a quick tip:

Have you ever mirrored text and it was backwards and looked as if it was being seen through the rear-view mirror of your car? Well this is how you fix that.

Change the System Variable MIRRTEXT:

  • <0> keeps the text readable after being mirrored
  • <1> mirrors the text direction

In the animated picture below, I mirrored text text objects with their respective variable setting and then show that these variable settings do not effect text that is within blocks.

thanks, but mine is set to 0 and it still mirrors, could this be because it is a block ? or should it work with blocks? Thanks

This is a good question because the description of the variable in AutoCAD is not very clear.

The text within a block will not adhere to the MIRRTEXT setting unless they are attributes. I wish that there was a way to overcome this but I haven’t seen a solution yet.

Just as a note, the reason that some blocks are text (MTEXT or DTEXT) is because some blocks have default text that we don’t want the users to manipulate the text value. We have some blocks that have both attributes and text within the block so that the default values are n the block in the form of text and the other text that needs to be manipulated is in the form of attributes.

One possible work around is to make the block with text as a dynamic block have add a dynamic “flip” action. This way the text is able to be flipped back to normal.
