Sick of guessing what these mean????
AutoCAD decided to turn the “Drafting Settings buttons” at the bottom of the screen from words into “icons.” I’m sure they did this to free up some space in the Status Bar. They problem that I have seen is that they are not very clear as to what these icons mean. So what I see people doing when I tutor them is that they hover their mouse over these icons until the words appear, then they choose the needed button.
To save time:
* Right click any of these “icons” and uncheck “Use Icons” (as seen below)
You should now see the icons displayed as words as seen below.
YEAH !!!!!!!

This does not work for Autocad 2015
Correct – This is one of my pet peeves and I cant stand not being able to change to text in 2015. There are a lot of people complaining about this online so I am hoping that with 2016 they will fix it. But who knows…
Hello , I already have the 2016 version Do you know if this feature has been implemented? I am unable to activate it.
You are correct, you can’t turn on the text option in the status bar any longer. This started with ACAD 2015 as has been a pain since they took this option away. However, I am reaching out to the AutoCAD team and I keep bugging them about it. So hopefully they will listen.
Here is an April’s fools post from this year that I did about this topic and many people liked it.

I’m working on 2014 and wanted to know if there was any way to make the Status Bar Icon buttons bigger. My computer has a very high screen resolution (3200 x 1800), which I like, but the Status Bar icons are a little too small for quick reference when working.
Thanks
Sorry – There isn’t a way to do so just for the Status bar.

Awesome – Glad it you like it and find it helpful
From 2014 to 2015 the status bar at the bottom with ortho, osnap, etc icons have moved from the bottom left to the bottom right side of the screen. its driving me nuts after all these years being on the left. How can i move it back to the left? Thanks
The status bar isn’t easy to customize anymore. The only things you can do is turn on/off which buttons are shown and turn it on and off. Oh and it can auto-stack when the autocad window is minimized
