I use the command HATCHTOBACK all of the time and I am surprised at how little known or used it is. Sometimes when you have hatches in your drawing and you continue working, the hatches tend to work their way to the front and end up covering your linework. Here’s how to fix this:
- HB <enter> or HATCHTOBACK <enter>
The command does all of the work and searches the entire drawing and sends all hatches to the back of the draw order.
Thankyou. This was very helpful. I have been using AutoCAD for approx 16 years. My last upgrade was from 2002 to 2012 and now 2013 and it is very different. The ribbon is killing me.
Aaron,
Thanks for stopping by. I’m happy that this blog is helpful for you. The ribbon is hard to adjust to but it is worth it. Think of it as logically ordered toolbars… If i need some tool that I don’t remember the command name or alias, I would have to know the name of the toolbar to be able to find it. With the ribbon they are easier for me to find. Plus you can turn on the display of text next to the tools that displays the name of the tool so you dont have to hover over a tool to see what it is…
Thanks
~Greg
i have heard about this command from my husband but i cant perform it in my office computer. is it because my autocad is 2010 or should i write this command to the pgp file? or can it be i have replaced the default pgp with my old one?
This specific tool was made available with AutoCAD 2011. There is an option for you to use with AutoCAD 2010 though: You can set the HPDRAWORDER system variable to 1. This can also be set while placing hatches in the HATCH dialog box in the “Options” area of the dialog box. Set it to “Send to back”
Another option is to use one of the lisp routines found at this forum: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Visual-LISP-AutoLISP-and-General/Hatch-to-back-reactor/td-p/1662247
ESSE COMANDO HATCHTOBACK NÃO FUNCIONA NO MEU CAD PRECISA HABILITAR?
From Google Translate: “HATCHTOBACK THIS COMMAND DOES NOT WORK IN MY NEEDS CAD ENABLE?”
It appears that this function was introduced in AutoCAD 2011. What version are you using?
Hello, i have autocad 2015 lt version, and this command is not available in this version, what i have to do?
I also have 2015 version and it does not work…also, we use x-ref’s…I am finding that when I update my x-ref, my hatch comes forward in all my related drawings, every viewport! It gets very tiresome, resetting them all with hatchtoback and regen. There has to be a better way.
Thanks for letting me vent, when it affects 12 drawings comprised of 40 viewports, it is a BIG DEAL
Give this LISP routine [click here] a try that controls the draw order by layers (from Lee-Mac)
Check your system variable DRAWORDERCTL and set it to 3. Hopefully that can help as well.
Appears correctly on my computer screen, but not with printing to PDF….
